MAJOR CHANGES COMING!
Carolinas Dahlia Society Annual Dahlia Show for 2012
WHERE? The North Carolina Arboretum.
WHEN? September 8, 2012 - the second Saturday in September.
No surprises there, you say?
The FLOWER(s) of the YEAR are PINK! Light Pink, Dark Pink, Blends & Bi-Colors - as long as the dominant color (first one mentioned in the description) is PINK!
We're celebrating the POWER of PINK! So many of our members have been touched by cancer that this is our year to remember our members and our families and friends.
Remember - we have 2 categories of FLOWER of the YEAR - so grow 1 fully double and 1 open center (aka, disc center) in PINK. You can only enter one in each category though -
the other Pinks you grow you can enter in the regular specimen bloom sections or on the
non-judged table or in artistic arrangements or donate them for sales to the Public.
Why donate blooms for sales? We pay 15% of flower sales to the NC Arboretum and
this year we'll be donating 50% of our share of flower sales to cancer research.
Well, how about:
The Carolinas Dahlia Society ("CDS") has voted to join the Southern States Dahlia Society -
a regional affiliation of (now) 4 local societies. CDS will be hosting the Tennessee Dahlia Society and the Dahlia Societies of Alabama and Georgia at the Southern States Annual Show held in conjunction with our usual show.
Yep, top Dahlia growers from all over the South will be converging on the Asheville area. Some of them have been coming for the past few years but we hope to see more of them.

A new Show Coordinator stepped up to take the reins, before the above change was voted. (Wink, Wink, Nod, Nod.) Kennie Z. only agreed if he could immediately get several volunteers to take leadership roles with the Show Operations. And got 'em! He has also asked that any feedback or suggestions for 2012 be sent directly to him. To make this easier - a button has been placed on the upper right - just click, fill in the blanks and your comments, critiques, suggestions, go straight to the 2012 Show Coordinator.
More you say?
This Show will be the kickoff for our RunUp to hosting the American Dahlia Society's 50th Annual National Show in 2016! The ADS will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2015 on Long Island (New York) and we'll have that as a springboard toward our own celebration the following year, hopefully drawing those East Coast exhibitors and those West Coast visitors to our show the following year!
